About the event
Eric S. Hintz, PhD is a historian with the Lemelson Center for the Study of Invention and Innovation at
the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of American History. Eric curates exhibits, including the
award-winning Places of Invention; produces the Center’s annual symposium series, New Perspectives
on Invention and Innovation; coordinates the Center’s fellowship and grant programs; and assists in the
collection of historically significant artifacts and documents. He is the author of American Independent
Inventors in an Era of Corporate R&D (MIT Press, 2021) and co-editor (with Matthew Wisnioski and
Marie Stettler Kleine) of Does America Need More Innovators? (MIT Press, 2019). Eric earned his M.A.
(2005) and Ph.D. (2010) in the history and sociology of science from the University of Pennsylvania.
The Historia Project is a national student-run 501(c)(3) that aims to introduce history of science to the youth. In their work, they have impacted over 250 young students with their mission through both virtual and in-person platforms, including the Historia Virtual Museum, in-person workshops, and of course their guest speaker events. Today, the Historia Project has multiple regions throughout the country with passionate students all working to share their love for history of science.
